A good friend of mine recently introduced me to a quote that became an instant favorite: “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost. That is where they should be. Now put the foundation under them.” – Henry David Thoreau
I love this quote because so many of our dreams look like this in our minds,

while their physical reality still looks like…
<-- this. Ugh, right? Manifesting our dreams can be a daunting task: the bigger the dreams, the bigger the gap between here and there. When you gaze too long into the space between, you can lose hope altogether. When crossing any canyon, real or imagined, the trick is not to look down.
No matter how big the gap between here and there, the distance can be bridged. Eventually. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it did get built.
Over the next few days, I’ll present some concrete suggestions on foundation building (pun intended).
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this wonderful photo, created and contributed by Anne Ritchie to the Win-Win Scavenger Hunt, to illustrate the first principle of dream building:

when you gaze too long into the void, and you find yourself overwhelmed by the gap between your dreams and your current reality, force yourself to shift your focus. Fly up again to your castle in the air, and walk along the ramparts for a while. Return to the source of your inspiration, and allow it to revitalize your spirit, until it pulls you once more toward the future.
