What is the true value of a life mission? It unites our nature in a common purpose. It is both what we SEEK and how we CONNECT to the world at the same time. It is the gateway into success and fulfillment in every aspect of our lives.
In the introduction to this blog, I began to discuss the ideas of our SEEKING and our SOCIAL natures as human beings. Our life mission integrates the two into a cohesive whole.
SEEKING is that feeling of excitement we get whenever we are striving for something wonderful that seems almost within our grasp, whether that thing is a trip, or a promotion, or a new skill, or an answer to a mystery.
CONNECTING comes from our social nature. It is the feeling we get when we feel that we are truly connecting to something, whether that something is a special place, or nature in general, or another human being, or even the universe as a whole.
In order to feel a profound sense of fulfillment in our lives, we need to fulfill both our SEEKING and our CONNECTING drives. Our life mission is a gateway into this kind of fulfillment. It is that which we SEEK that simultaneously CONNECTS us to the world.
My own life mission is to stand for the principle of inclusion. I SEEK inclusion in every aspect of my life, and it is this very act of SEEKING that CONNECTS me to the world. I SEEK to include others in my activities and interests, I SEEK to include new ideas in my world view, I SEEK to include every aspect of myself in my relationships with others.
Each of these acts of SEEKING by its very nature CONNECTS me to other human beings or to the world around me. I experience the excitement of SEEKING and the joy of CONNECTING at the same time. Your own life mission does the same for you.
If you are looking to discover your own life mission, seek it in the profound and joyful moments of your life. Seek it in the times when you felt yourself rising into an existence that felt somehow higher than your "normal" way of being. Seek it in the times when you felt that you were tapping into something much greater than yourself.
How can you discover your life mission? Ask yourself this: "What do I SEEK that CONNECTS me to the world?" Find the answer, and you will discover the most perfect expression of your true self.
