The DragonLance Chronicles by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman make a terrific entry into the DragonLance world of Dungeons & Dragons. These are wonderful action/ adventure novels, complete with warriors, wizards, elves, dwarves, clerics, and yes, even dragons. (Including several strong and capable women to spice up the plot.)
